SUMMER PROGRAM: Kids Enrichment (Weeks of June 24, July 15, 22, 29; August 5, 12, 19)

The Summer Enrichment Program at the Center offers a fun and educational experience for Kindergarten through Fifth grade children. Strong academics and a variety of hands-on, interactive activities are the hallmarks of our program. The summer at the Center will prepare kids to start school in the fall with confidence!

The morning session will focus on the fundamentals of writing skills, reading fluency, grammar structure and mathematical concepts using dynamic and engaging teaching methods. Lessons will reinforce student’s existing skills and also challenge their cognitive and creative thinking at or above grade level. Afternoon sessions will allow students to explore a variety of interesting sessions such as music, dance, speech, drama, arts, henna design, crafts, cooking and baking! Not to mention geographical exploration and scientific discovery.

In addition, Week 1 Enrichment will include Introduction to programming and specialized team collaboration coaching to orient the children in to the world of programming. Introduction to programming will focus on basic logic development and programming fundamentals in alignment with industry standard teaching.

Week 1-Learn to Code with Python: Python is a popular coding language that has a minimal with easy-to-read style. It is extensively used in artificial intelligence programming and is moving fast up the rankings of the most popular languages! This session, in collaboration with iSTEMConnect, will teach your child to code, edit and problem-solve in a structured and methodical manner. Once the student has mastered how code is structured, they will learn to implement core-programming constructs through fun, practical exercises and projects resulting in their ability to create Python projects with confidence.
Python classes begin with a theoretical examination of coding logic using flowcharts and pseudocode a crucial step for a good coder – first understand the problem, outline a solution and then write code. An orientation to Python and plenty of hands-on learning covering topics such as datatypes, variables, user inputs, branching, iteration, functions and so much more.

Week 8 Robotics Session I: Introduction to Robotics includes programming EV3 robot following the curriculum of Carnegie Mellon for Lego EV3 Programming leading up to performing challenges with Lego EV3 robot.

Week 8 Robotics Session II: Scratch Programming includes introduction to MIT Scratch programming through a curriculum aligning with industry standards. Kids will be working in small teams developing working prototypes based on the challenge sets. Logical and analytical thinking shall be the focus along with programming skills.
